I had an argument with a friend just the other day. He insisted that there was no place in the tropics for nudity. The sun, he said, was too strong and our skin can't take too much of it. But that's rubbish. I would rather have a strong sun that a cold winter if I'm to go nude.
This afternoon, the sun was indeed very strong when I went out to feed my fish. So I wore my farmer's hat to protect myself from the sun. Nudity is perfectly suitable for the tropics.
I agree with your assessment. You need only to look at indigenous people south of the equator to know that people - many wearing little or no coveting- spend many hours in the tropical sun without going up in smoke. My question is how do you maintain an all-over tan? You’ve mentioned that you wear clothing outside your castle. But you don’t appear to have a farmer’s or golfer’s tan. Is your skin sufficiently protected again UVR? Or do you apply any lotions?
ReplyDeleteMy skin is not equally tanned. My hands are more exposed to the sun and they're darker than the rest of my body. I try to avoid too much sun when I'm not naked. I don't apply any sun lotion because I don't stay out in the sun for too long. But I expose my whole body to the sun in small doses every day. That probably prevents pronounced tan lines from forming. My genitals are naturally more tanned than the rest of my body. The worst tan lines I get are ironically when I go nude hiking in Europe. I get unsightly lines from the straps of the rucksack.
DeleteDo you prefer to be nude with foreskin covering the head or exposed the head by pulling your foreskin back
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good point that nobody ever thought about. Should one pull back the foreskin when one is out in the sun? I don't know how the skin works but is it bad for the glans to be exposed to the sun? Presumably, it's the foreskin that is the normal skin with all the normal different layers in the skin and the ability to produce pigment. Perhaps it's better not to pull back the foreskin if you are exposed to direct sun. But I have no expert knowledge.
DeleteIt’s all about skin pigmentation. Skin color comes from Melanin. The higher the levels of melanin, the darker the skin. The lips and glans have higher levels of pheomelanin which results in red or pink skin colors. Redheads have more pheomelanin.
DeleteThanks. That's very informative. I didn't know all that.
